Ms. Rachel Shares the Heartfelt Story Behind Her Signature Pink Headband

It’s genuinely difficult to recall a time before Ms. Rachel came into our lives and became a cherished figure in children’s entertainment. If you’re familiar with her, you undoubtedly have a fondness for her. She produces educational YouTube content that parents appreciate for aiding infants and toddlers in developing their speech, while also serving as a cheerful presence on social media, consistently showcasing a warm smile and a relatable mom outfit. Ms. Rachel’s trademark combination of overalls, a pink T-shirt, and a knotted headband has become emblematic of her persona. Recently, in an Instagram Reel, Ms. Rachel revealed the charming reason behind her signature pink headband—and her explanation struck a chord with mothers everywhere.

What’s the reason behind Ms. Rachel’s pink headband?

One might assume that Ms. Rachel’s adorable outfit is merely a facet of her online persona, maintaining a recognizable and consistent appearance—and that’s likely true. However, on Thursday, October 3, the internet sensation and mother of one shared the real reason why she sports a knotted pink headband in her videos. She humorously explained, “True story! Busy mom with no time to wash hair + lots of short hairs – threw on headband and that’s how it started 🤣 #msrachel,” she captioned the post, which has since garnered over 230,000 likes.

In the beginning of the video, the message “why did you decide to wear a headband for the Ms. Rachel outfit?” appears as Ms. Rachel hides her face and presents her pink headband to the camera. When she turns to face the audience, it’s clear that her hair is tied back in a ponytail but accompanied by shorter, frizzier pieces. Then, she puts on her headband, tucking those shorter strands away, before cheekily stating, “It’s just cute.”

As expected, numerous mothers swiftly commented on this #IYKYK moment, recognizing the magic of a hair accessory in taming unwashed hair and covering up short strands due to postpartum hair changes. “Omg we love you Ms. Rachel 😂😍,” @heybellafoodie wrote. “Are you even a mom if you don’t have a layer of frizz lol,” added @missbrittanyboo, while @laura_bogacki15 remarked, “The most relatable thing I’ve seen in years!! 🙌 #postpartumhairaintnojoke.”

Ms. Rachel’s playful clarification resonated with so many mothers that they humorously questioned why the headband inquiry was even posed. “Moms would never ask that question. We already knowwww. 😂,” commented @getmomstrong. “I feel SO seen. 3+ years postpartum and still rockin’ the baby hairs 🥲,” echoed @lexicohane. “My headband collection tripled postpartum 😂,” added @ourlarsonlife.

Here at The Everymom, we’re big fans of Ms. Rachel, and when her latest Reel appeared on Instagram, the team quickly shared the link in our internal Slack channel — a sentiment particularly felt by our Editorial Intern, Patty. “Def wore this costume just so I could tame my hair for an event last year!” she shared, attaching a selfie of her in Ms. Rachel’s signature overalls and pink headband.

Moreover, Patty shared one of her favorite, easy-to-implement mom hacks with the team via Slack: “If your toddler is ever acting out, dress up as Ms. Rachel,” she suggested. Brilliant! I believe I can speak for all mothers when I say Ms. Rachel is truly the pop culture treasure that never stops giving — and her latest relatable moment has only deepened our affection for her.
