The Most Beneficial & Premium Skincare Investments That Works In Real

Being a writer focused on beauty and skincare, I frequently have the opportunity to sample the newest products and explore the trendiest gadgets and releases—but acquiring top-tier skincare splurges doesn’t happen very often. You know, those items you keep contemplating adding to your cart but hesitate to click “buy”?

However, as I’ve recently marked a birthday that brings me closer to 40 than 30 (Oh my!), I’ve been considering taking the leap and splurging on some high-tech and high-end products to help maintain the optimal appearance of my skin.

Before I fully commit, I undertook the next best step and sought insights from Dr. Dendy Engelman, a board-certified dermatologist based in NYC, regarding some of the luxurious skincare investments that have caught my eye and received rave reviews—but come with a substantial price tag. Here’s what she shared.

Insights on Luxurious Skincare

Similar to not judging a book by its cover, quality skincare shouldn’t be judged based on its price tag. Dr. Engelman mentions that expensive skincare doesn’t always guarantee quality or efficacy.

Nevertheless, she emphasizes, “Often, a higher-priced product indicates superior active ingredients or a greater concentration of a specific component,” underscoring the importance of scrutinizing labels and comprehending the ingredients, strengths, and formulations.

She advocates for a balanced approach by combining high-quality affordable products with pricier options. “There’s a multitude of effective and reasonably priced skincare products available in drugstores that effectively address various skin concerns, and I frequently recommend them to my patients,” notes Dr. Engelman. Personally, she prioritizes investments in antioxidants, a quality retinol, eye cream, and anti-aging moisturizer.

Regarding items like cleansers, makeup removers, mists, and lip care, she advises, “You don’t have to splurge on every product in your skincare regimen. I prefer selecting a few investment-worthy products supported by clinical evidence that offer superior results and quality.”

Deluxe Skincare Treats Worth Trying

Dr. Dennis Gross Dr. X Spectralite FaceWare Pro

This futuristic-looking mask is a coveted essential among skincare enthusiasts, prompting me to inquire with Dr. Engelman for her expert opinion. She highlights, “This versatile device aims to address fine lines, wrinkles, redness, acne, and blemishes through cutting-edge technologies like red and blue light therapy. Continued usage of this mask delivers lasting and visible results surpassing product efficacy alone, making it a truly worthwhile investment and a transformative addition to any skincare routine.”

NuFACE Mini+

Microcurrent technology has been a prominent trend in the skincare realm, with this at-home device standing out as a frontrunner among available options. Discussing its benefits, Dr. Engelman remarks, “This device facilitates the sculpting of facial muscles and enhances facial tone over time. Traditionally, such treatment would require a visit to a clinic. By enabling home use over time, this product proves its worth as an investment, ultimately offering cost savings in the long run.” I’m convinced.

A.G.E. Advanced Eye Care by SkinCeuticals

Earning a reputable status as a luxury skincare brand, SkinCeuticals garners considerable praise, especially for their eye care products. Dr. Engelman affirms, “Given the delicacy of the eye area, it’s essential to use a cream formulated with gentle yet potent ingredients. This eye cream incorporates potent components for addressing issues like dark circles and crow’s feet, all while maintaining a potency level that’s non-abrasive to the sensitive undereye region.”

She stresses the significance of selecting an eye cream, mentioning, “The differing price points correspond to varying levels of effectiveness and sensitivity. Therefore, investing a bit more in this aspect of your skincare routine is justifiable.”

R-Retinoate® Day & Night by Medik8

If you’re hesitant to include vitamin A in your skincare regimen due to sensitivity, using it incorrectly can have strong and dehydrating effects. Dr. Engelman recommends, “This day and night cream by Medik8 employs a unique, patented encapsulation technology to gradually deliver the potent retinyl retinoate into the skin, allowing those with even the most delicate skin to benefit from its powerful effects without the risk of irritation.” She emphasizes, “Considering this innovation was developed in the brand’s internal laboratory, you can trust that this formula is top-notch and warrants its price tag.”

The Lyma Laser

One of Dr. Engelman’s preferred skincare gadgets worth the splurge is the Lyma laser, which she counts among her favorites. According to her, “This clinical-grade, FDA-cleared laser integrates infrared laser light technology and is perfect for home use. It penetrates deep into the dermis, promoting collagen and elastin production, and addresses signs of aging, firmness, texture, and complexion. It is 100 times more potent than standard LED lights, painless and cold with no downtime. While it requires an investment, its lasting effects and medical-grade outcomes make it worthwhile.”

Qure Micro-Infusion Facial System

“I am impressed with Qure’s at-home 2-in-1 micro-infusion system since, though it may be a bit of a splurge, it offers a cost-effective, at-home alternative for achieving medical-grade results,” says Dr. Engelman. If you’re unable to visit your preferred office or medical spa frequently for facials, this could easily become your new go-to.”

She further explains, “It delivers enhanced penetration with 24k gold needles and is safe and efficient, featuring a safety mechanism to prevent the needles from penetrating too deeply or disrupting the skin. This at-home microneedling solution targets uneven skin tone and texture, firms and rejuvenates the skin, and enhances its radiance.”

Dr. Engelman’s Personal Pick: A Splurge-Worthy Treatment

When asked to share her personal recommendation for an in-office procedure that justifies its cost, Dr. Engelman highlights CO2 fractionated laser resurfacing (also known as Fraxel). According to her, “This in-office treatment is, in my opinion, one of the best and worth every penny. I opt for this once a year to enhance overall skin health and appearance, and to boost collagen and elastin production. While it costs between $1,500 to $3,500 per session and involves a few days of downtime, the results speak for themselves.”
